Pro Tips for Effective Content Writing

Content is a crucial aspect of the content marketing marketplace that could boost your effort to reach a wider audience.

There are no set rules for creating quality content. However, there are some guidelines you need to consider for every piece of content. Here is everything you need to write compelling content that helps you reach your goals.

1. A head-turning headline

Your headline should grab attention. According to research, over 50% of traffic is lost to poor headline writing. To write magnetic headlines;

  • Write your headline first.

Write as many rough headlines as you can think of. Make a rough sketch you can build upon later.

  • Carry out search engine keyword research.

Target the niche phrases.

  • Use “how-tos”.
    • Focus on the “better, easier, and happier”. For example, How to live a happier life after marriage.
    • Use the dual “how-to” benefit structure. How to (mundane task) that (rewarding benefit). For example, How to create content that boosts sales.
    • Leaving out the ‘to’ works, too. For example, How content marketing can boost your sales.

2. A hook that grabs their attention

The average attention span of a human being is just 8 seconds, which is even shorter than a goldfish’s. To grab your audience’s attention, the first few sentences in your content should be compelling enough to hook them. Else, they’d skim right past.

3. Adequate research

Before writing any content, you certainly need to carry out adequate research on the topic. You should professionally write your content with all crucial points covered on the subject.

4. Focus on a single point.

As you write, try not to deviate from the primary purpose of your content. Keep your article focused on accomplishing the purpose stated in your headline from start to finish.

Focusing on one point/purpose per content will keep your audience’s mind on your end goal.

5. Write in a unique voice

Write in the language your buyer persona prefers, such as a friendly or authoritative tone.

6. Add visuals

According to studies, pictures and images get 94% more views than text-only content. Ensure to have at least one image/multimedia in your article.

7. Utilize bullet points and lists

Bullets and lists make it easy for readers to scan and absorb information effectively.

Research shows that readers absorb 80% of the information in bullet points, while only 20% of the content is absorbed in paragraph form.

9. Add a call to action

Add a call-to-action (CTA) at the end of each blog post or article to drive the reader back to your site, where they will be able to contact you or signup for your email list.

A clear CTA will ensure that you have a strong follow-up program in place after publishing an article.
